Clatsop County Fair

The Clatsop County Fair & Expo is coming up July 29th - August 2. We at Scrap Harbor would like to encourage our customers to enter in the fair this year their cards- scrapbook pages or rubber stamping. A few rules to apply. Entry day is SUNDAY JULY 27th from 1pm top 8pm.

The details- this is just what we know.

Scrapbooking- Class 765

Rubber Stamping- Class 760

Must be in page protectors

All entries must be new or recent and not have been shown at the Clatsop County Fair.

Collection must be owned by the exhibitor. The same collection can not be shown two years in a row. Collection MUST include a brief description on a 5x8 card or paper.

Exhibitor must supply their own display cloth, hanger, racks, blocks, for their
display. Mark each item in collection.

All entries are shown at the risk of the owner. Reasonable precaution will be taken to insure safety of the exhibits. Some locked display cases will be available.

The officials will not be responsible for any loss or damage.

Collection should contain no less than 5 objects.

General rules and regulations governing all department of the Fair apply to this division. Judging will be done 50% on educational value; 15% on display; 35% on card.

Space is limited.

You will be given a 24x24 space if possible.

Exhibitor will arrange their entry.

Collection to be hung MUST have a hanger. Must be mounted on a SECURE backing no bigger than 24x24 space.

NO ENTRIES WILL BE RETURNED WITHOUT YOUR CLAIM CHECK on Sunday, August 7.

Entries must represent the hobby and be the handwork of the AMATEUR only, exhibitor.

All entries MUST have an exhibitor tag ATTACHED AND COMPLETED.

JUNIORS – 17 AND UNDER US BLUE EXHIBIT TAGS ONLY.

** NEW** Paper Bag Album Class: Wednesday June 18th– 6pm to 8pm. Yep– Denise is finally doing this. Learn how to make this fun album out of a paper bag! Class fee is $20.00. Theme: Our Family. You will learn how to make this adorable & fun album. Basic supply kit needed plus Pop up dots– glue dots– and a ruler.

**NEW** Beginners Scrapbook 101 by Terry– Sunday June 22nd 11am to 1:00pm. If you are a first time scrapper & need that little push to get you started (you have no idea what a “crop” is– other than the ones out in the field) then this is a class for you! Bring 4-6 RECENT, related photos & you will leave with a completed double page layout & information you will need to begin. Class fee is $15.00. You will need the basic supply kit. If you don’t have any of these items you may borrow some of ours or purchase them at our store for a discount.

** It’s baaack** BEE Ready Class by Sandy– Saturday June 28– 11am to 1pm. We talked her into teaching! You have admired some of Sandy’s work in the store. Now she is teaching our BEE Ready class...for 4th of July & wedding. Class fee is $15.00 includes supplies to make 4 to 5 cards. Basic supply plus glue dots– pop up dots will be needed.

Been too long

Yes- it has been too long & I do apologize. The month has just gone by too fast I tell ya! Our All DAy Crop was a ton of fun. Our NEW Queen of the Crop is.. MINDY. She did some fabulous pages- did a lot of them too. We wil get the photos up in the next day or so.. I promise.

We have been busy - busy around the store. We have some new papers in. A great new line Graphic 45! We also have some adorable paper by Kaiser Craft- a line based out of Austrailia. I think you'll looove it!

National Scrapbook Day is coming!

Posting & updating my blog for the store. I apologize to you all. It's been busy for me doing the small things. Terry & Sandy have BOTH been sick & looks like Sandy has the worst of it. I am behind on EVERYTHING... story of my life.

Yes- CK is just a day away!! The store will be closed on Friday so we can attend this years show. We hope that all who goes will have a great time & share any stories you haev to tell with us!

We will be bringing some new items into the store. We are really excited about the Card Scents we are bring in. Now we can say.. don't just send it....scent it. Can you imagine going to your mailbox and there is a creative hand made card... You start to open the envelope and smell a sweet scent.... The scent reminds you of a time when you and your sista went to the local ice cream shop and you spotted your first love... Simply Sista's card scents is all about bringing back the good memories and starting new ones. Look for this in the store in the beginning of March.

We have some Easter & St. Patty's day arriving this week as well. So make sure you store by this coming week.

Seaside Sisters Crop Weekend!

This weekend was the Seaside Sisters at the Seaside Convention Center. We had our Cinderella Crop Friday night & what fun it was!! Here are some photos to show you.

Seana brings her entire room & we all get quite a laugh out of this. She did some great pages though!! Jennifer has fun with our dashing prince charming. And a note to Mindy & Jennifer- I want to switch the 2 of you around- no idea why- however- I am so sorry. We had some out of towners from Vancouver & the Hillsboro area that night as well. These gals stuck around for our ALL-DAY crop Saturday. Lots of fun then too. A lot was going on Saturday & Saturday night. We had our Saturday night Cinderella Crop & a group of FUN ladies came to hang out with us. Gotta love the the fun we all had. Michelle won our prize of the day for the ALL-Day crop. She didn't have her crown with her- but we made do with our prince charming frog. Prince charming took quit a beating this weekend. He had fun though.

We had a class taught by Trisha. She did the Explosion Box. It came out great!!

It was great to meet some new ladies & get some great ideas from them all. Seems like they all had a good time & we hope to see more of them! Thanks for traveling & thanks fro joining us ladies. We all had a great time.

A big thank you to Terry & Sandy for all your help. Without you I coudln't have done it!

We have some upcoming classes. We have told you about the Expolsion Box & WeaverEz Classes. They are Saturday February 2 @ the Seaside Sisters Convention in Seaside. We will also be having our Cinderella Crops & An ALL DAY Crop on Saturday.
Our Kids Workshop will be Friday February 8th from 3pm to 6pm. The class is limited to 10 & filling up. Kids will be making a Valentine's Day project.

I may be a few days late- but Happy New Year to all.

We have been busy at the store with some new ideas-new stuff & the upcoming Seaside Sisters Conventions. We are hosting our Cinderella Crop on Friday night- cost is a bit more- $12.00 then we have an ALL DAY CROP on Saturday from 10am to Midnight- cost is $22.00. We'll have a small store on site & some GREAT classes on Saturday. Our first class is a 10am to noon- The Explosion Box- a gift & card all in one! The cost is $17.00 per person and you can sign up on the convention website after Jan 7th. The other class is The Dream Weaverz Technique and Scrapbook Page Layout class is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Saturday and runs two hours, ending at 3:30p.m. Class fee is $20.00. This is a beginner transitioning to intermediate level class. You do need some papercrafting or scrapbooking experience. Introducing a NEW TOOL for weaving paper!
Weaving is not a new craft... just adding it to scrapbooking with help to make it easier!

So who made it through the storm? Looks like most of did with a story or 2 to tell. We hope your holiday plans are coming along. A reminder about the Scrap For Hunger is Saturday at 10am at the Warrenton Grade School. Hope you will join in getting some of those last minute things done & help the food bank out. Brenda has done & great thing & we are so proud of her for thinking of others.

We will closed Christmas Eve & Christmas Day.. however- we will Open WEDNESDAY the day after from 10am to 2pm for our FIRST ANNUAL SUPER DAY AFTER CHRISTMAS SALE.. woooohoooo... we'll have selected items 15 to 25% off.

One of our regulars- Brenda McKune is hosting a "Let's Help Scrap Hunger" on Saturday December 15th from 10am to 10pm at the Warrenton Grade School located at 820 SW Cedar St- Warrenton. This is your chance to have a day of scrapping- or card making or crafting & help those in need. Bring 5 non-perishable food items & your own supplies. Lots of wonderful ticket prizes throughout the day that have been donated by local businesses & individuals.

Expand on the Basics

I realize many of you have been scrapping or making cards for some time now. I think we tend to forget the basics. I know I do at times. I thought it would be nice to remind ourselves about those Back to Basics.

Punches are great for adding a little something extra to your design. There are many styles for creating fabulous corners - some even have an extra touch of unique style. The Paper Shapers line offers literally hundreds of punches in all shapes and sizes. If a beginner scrapbooker, try sticking to basic shapes like circles and squares for the most versatility.

Stickers are the most diverse group of page or card enhancements. In addition to simple shapes, designs and icons (flowers and leaves, bugs or sport accessories), stickers are now available in decorative alphabet letters, catchy phrases and sentiments, destination locations (complete with scenic images) and titles! A few fun ones to work with are:
Phrase Café - cute and sassy phrases in many styles and themes
Tag Types - a collection of alphabets in various colors and fonts
Classic Stickers - a broad selection of sticker shapes, themes, icons, scenes and elements in a range of different materials (vellum, glitter, metallic, opalescent) for capturing all of life's adventures

Fibers are great add-ons for the texture and movement that they provide to page designs. Available in a huge selection of colors and a broad array of fiber styles, they range from thick or delicate to solid or variegated - the choice selection is endless! As an added bonus, all Adornaments fibers coordinate with the Color Selector tool.

Thankful

The T-day coming up I thought I'd share what I am thankful for... seems like I'm first thankful for a day that you can pig out & not worry what everyone thinks when you go for that second helping of schmashed potatoes.. ya know?! Plus a day to be with family and or friends. I'm thankful for the gals who have supported me & work here at the store.. without them I'd be a zombie half the time. They keep me on my toes here. I am thankful for the wonderful guest that have come into the store. I have met some new faces & friends .... thank you much. I'm always thankful for the 2 boywonders in my life- my husband Dan & my son Cameron. I thank you all for the support- kindness- love & all that jazz.

The store will be closed Wednesday- Thursday & Friday. I am not closing to make sure I can be in the Black Friday lines.. oh no..not me. I may be crazy to do it once.. but I'm not that crazy to do it twice! All of us here wish you & your family a Happy Thanksgiving.

Iris Folding CLASS

Tootsie has been kind enough to hold a Iris Folding Class. Iris folding is one of those techniques that looks complicated, but is really very simple to master. You will be making the tree with gifts in class. Lots of tips,hints and samples will be showed to inspire you to use this art with scrapbooking papers. Inner self

I know we all tend to scrap the important times on our lives- holidays- birthdays- graduation- vacations- family stuff.. but what about YOU? Do we take the time to scrap a moment in our lives about us? Not just ABOUT us.. but the moments about how we feel or what is going on. One of our design team members- ANN made this LO.. HOPE (click to see more). It was made during a time of so much happening in her personal life she needed to make this LO-- and those are her words-- "I needed to". She asked me about doing an inner part of herself when I originally asked her to do a page about her obsession or the object of her affection. I thought if she was willing to share a bit of it-- then yes. I think sharing this we can see that doing layouts like this is a healing thing or facing what is going on as well as a outlet for the creative side of us & what we do. So take a moment to think about doing a LO about YOU.. how you are at this moment in your life? Happy- out of balance - beautiful - lost -hopeful- wonderful - annoyed. We would love it if you would share the LO with us... then again we would understand if it's toooo personal. .which is a good thing. So give it a try! Ann thanks for the LO & sharing it with us. It's in the mail folks so you can come in & see it first hand in the store!

Shaving Cream

Colleen used this technique a while back in one of her classes. This is technique that has been around for awhile & used a lot by those who are a regular with either Close To My Heart or Stampin' Up. Give it a try.. it's easy & sooo much fun. You'll be hooked & the hubby will be out of shaving cream!

Supplies needed:

Shaving cream
2-3 Dye inkpad re-inkers
Wooden stick (or something like it to mix/stir with)
Container (We used a washed meat tray)
Cardstock
Paper towels

Step 1.

Fill your container with shaving cream and use your wooden stick to smooth it out a bit.

Step 2.

Add several drops of each of your re-inker colors to your shaving cream.

Step 3.

Mix shaving cream and re-inker in a swirling motion.
Step 4.

Continue to mix until you like the design/swirls you see.

Step 5.

Press your cardstock into the shaving cream. Make sure the card front is completely coated.

Step 6.

Pull cardstock out of the shaving cream.

Step 7. (optional)

Lay another piece of cardstock on top of your shaving cream covered one. Press together then pull apart, giving you two shaving cream coated pieces of cardstock.

Step 8.

Take a paper towel and wipe away the shaving cream in a swirling motion.

Step 9.

Let dry.

Step 10.

Finish your card/or use for background paper. Either layer an image on top or stamp directly onto the background for cards. You can also use this for matting your photos or background paper for scrapbooking! Have fun!

Our Queen of the CROP

Saturday we had an all day crop & announced our Queen of the CROP--Michelle Nisle! We also had a bag of scrap that went to Debbie (and I forget a last name-- I am sooo sorry) But Michelle completed 11 LO- tried 5 new things (thanks to the BINGO game). Debbie was a first time scrapper & did 2 LO - learned a ton of new things & is hooked! Everyone had a good time & got a lot done. Thank you everyone for coming & we'll be doing another ALL DAY one in January!

All Day Crop...

Looking forward to this Saturday having our FIRST IN STORE ALL DAY CROP! Woohoo. Lots of door prizes & lots of fun should be coming our way.
We have officially changed to WINTER hours- which are:

Monday- Tuesday & Thursday 10am to 5pm
Wednesday- CLOSED
Friday & staurday 10am - 6pm
Sunday- NOW OPEN- Noon - 4pm

October Challenge/Contest- Rules & yadda yadda yadda

This month I have a Challenge which has turned into a contest. I'm looking for you to mail or bring in a layout with the view point from your husband about "being a wife of a scrapper". The challenge came to me while I was doing my blog & checked out another blog- Life of a Scrapper's Husband. I got to thinking - which is really kind of scary if you really know me.. "hey why not make this a challenge & see what others can do with this". Yes- the dear hubby will have to be involved... I mean it's his point of view & you doing it.. how fun will this be!? Just think you two are doing something together & when you go to buy any supplies you can say "honey, it's for OUR page". Can he really say anything then? I think not.

So..what does one win?? (see photos above) For First Place: Crop In Style Fashion Tote bag with some goodies- plus Crop In Style Camera Bag and bragging rights! Second Place: Crop In Style Fashion Tote bag - Third Place: Crop In Style Camera Bag.. and both get bragging rights as well!
The fine print aka the RULES:

ALL Layouts (LO) must be in by October 31, 2007

Only scrapbook layouts measuring 8"x 8" or larger are eligible.

2 page LO will be considered as ONE entry.

All layouts submitted to the contest must be scans or photos of physical layouts. Some elements composing a physical layout may have been created in a digital environment, but such elements must be printed and affixed to the layout. Such items must not compose the majority of the layout. Computer generated fonts and journaling are acceptable.

Please provide a recipe of what items you used. If you don't know.. that's okay. (This helps us when people ask what was used)

Please have your name & any contact info on the back of your LO

Judging will be done between November 1st & 3rd. Judging will be based on, but not limited to the following criteria:

Design elements (color, repetition, balance etc.)

Use of title/journaling (the story)

Photo quality

Originality and Innovation.

Winners will be announced the Monday November 5th. Layouts will be displayed in the store & will be returned the first week of December. If mailing & you wish to have your LO returned, please send return postage in the same amount along with your return address. If you are local you may pick up your LO the first week of December. Finding a funny

In the scrapbook world we always find our funnies.. this is a funny. I admit to finding this on another blog.. the guy- YES a guy and you have to check it out.... Life of a scrapper's husband. The point of view from a guy is quite funny. NOW- if Dan (the dh) would ever take the time to do a blog.. pretty sure this would be it. .and even funnier if a friend of his Mike - jumped in with him. So I asked myself "would it be FUN to scrap a page from the husbands point of view of what is it like to be a wife of a scrapper? So I challenge you to do the same.. and now I may even have a contest on this.. so keep in touch here to see if I do.. and ANYONE can enter.. near OR far.. come on why not?? Okay-- yes- I'll have a contest on this. For 1st- 2nd & 3rd-- you have until October 31st to enter. I'll add MORE details later once me-myself & I have it all figured out!

Hope you all had a GREAT weekend! Our Cinderella Crop was a lot of fun Friday night! Terry finished up her "Object of my affection" page which is so cute!!
Starting next Monday(October 1) our store hours will make a change for fall/winter. So these are them as follows:
Monday-Tuesday AND Thursday 10am-5pm
Wednesday- CLOSED
Friday & saturday the same: 10am to 6pm
SUNDAY- NOW OPEN Noon to 4pm
You can come & crop during the week from 11am-4pm for free & on Sundays from noon to 3:30pm.

Cinderella Crops

Tonight is a Cinderella Crop from 6pm to midnight! Cost is $5.00. Schedule for the Cinderella Crops is as follows-

Friday Sept 14 - Saturday Sept 22 - Friday Sept 29 - Our ALL DAY CROP Saturday 10am to 6pm -No Cinderella Crop will be scheduled Sat the 6th- Friday October 12- Saturday Oct 20. Minimum of 3 persons to have a Cinderella Crop. During our crop nights the store will remain open until 9pm. Give us a call to check & see if we'll be open to to reserve your spot! 503-738-0202.

On Saturday October 6th we are having an ALL DAY Crop from 10am to 6pm. Cost is $15.00 & includes lunch- snacks- drinks-goodie bags- door prizes & fun fun fun! Up Coming Classes-RECIPE FILE

Colleen will be teaching the RECIPE FILE/ROLADEX on October 5th & 12th from 5:30-8:30pm. Class will be in 2 sessions to complete the Roladex. Class is $30.00 & includes all supplies. If you have an adhesive you prefer- please bring that. You may call the store or sign-up at the store. This is a PRE-PAID classs. This will make a GREAT gift!!

What else do I call it?

This blog will keep you up to date on the current classes & crops & all that is happening in Scrap Harbor.

We are looking for some teachers to teach classes- so if you are interested, please come by the store during store hours & bring in a sample of what you'd like to teach. I would love to have some day time classes available. So if you are interested.. call me for more information or stop by!

We will be changing from our SUMMER hours to our Fall/Winter hours starting October 1st. I am currently going back & forth on a few things. So your input would GREAT on this. I am thinking of 2 options here: Option 1:open on Sunday's from Noon to 4pm & close on Wednesdays.

Option 2: Stay Closed on Sundays & Wednesday close at 4pm. AND another option would be open 7 days & have another part-time person work Sundays? So many things ... please either email with your feedback at scrapharbor@aol.com or you can post a comment here.
